How to Conduct a Materiality Assessment
What is Materiality and how can you conduct a materiality assessment? Materiality assessments help identify an organization’s most “material issues” and determine what to track and report on. Through a process of reaching out to internal and external stakeholders, you can input on identifying key issues.
The key to getting value out of a materiality assessment is first understanding the information you are looking for and how you are going to use it. Currently, she is managing all things HSE for ABB, a company that “makes the world turn, while saving energy every day.” Nicole has been a change agent at ABB, establishing HSE culture, driving continuous improvement, and developing management systems. She has seen the “environmental” function of the HSE role expand from traditional environmental compliance to overall environmental sustainability and corporate responsibility. At ABB, Nicole is engaging stakeholders to develop future sustainability objectives. Nicole was previously the Facilities Manager for the New Berlin and Wauwatosa locations, in addition to her HSE role. Nicole graduated from Clarkson University with a degree in Industrial Hygiene and is a Certified Safety Professional. She is a member of ABB’s Encompass Women’s network as well as ASSP’s Women in Safety Engineering.
Laura Loucks – Sustainability Specialist – Inpro Corp. – Skilled sustainability and business efficiency professional with experience in product transparency, employee engagement, sustainability reporting, and company efficiency initiatives. Particular experience in LEED Building and other green building certifications, EPD and HPD creation, Life Cycle Analysis, EMS team organization, organizing company-wide speakers and events, and staying up-to-date with current sustainability practices. Other experience includes renewable energy, report and grant writing, and community organization.
