The rest of the country is celebrating National Manufacturing Day on October 3rd; but Wisconsin has way too much manufacturing activity to be contained in just one day! We take the whole month of October to showcase our diversity and capabilities.

The idea started three years ago as a way to highlight manufacturing across the country. The Fabricators and Manufacturers Association connected with the MEP system to launch the first Manufacturing Day – a chance to highlight manufacturing’s contribution to the economy, foster community connections, and engage students, teachers, and parents to show them the opportunities available in modern manufacturing.

In Wisconsin, a coalition of partners decided a day was not enough for us and expanded the event to Manufacturing Month. Not unexpectedly, our state leads the nation in plant tours, visitors, and events. This year should be no different as various manufacturers, educators, government officials, and citizens from across the state join forces to celebrate our successes. In fact, a Wisconsin manufacturer, Waukesha Metal Products, already won the Grand Prize in the national video contest.

It’s not too late to participate in this year’s celebration. Open up your plant and hold tours for people in your community. Go out and see successful manufacturing operations and join their Manufacturing Month events. Support the STEM educational efforts at your local high school or technical college. Get engaged with Manufacturing Month where you live and make a difference!

It’s a terrific time to be a Wisconsin manufacturer! Let’s celebrate our successes and future with each other during October!
