The Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership has teamed up with a new partner, Milwaukee Sustainability Roundtable, in its continuing pursuit of tools and resources to make companies sustainable and profitable.  A roundtable of large businesses has already been formed and is holding a breakfast meeting on January 9, 2014.  A central agenda item is the question of whether there is a need for the creation of a separate roundtable for small and mid-sized companies.

The initial planning breakfast meeting will be held on January 9, 2014 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. in Milwaukee – if you’re interested in joining, contact Mac McDermid at (608.512.3378 or [email protected])

The Milwaukee Sustainability Roundtable for large businesses will bring together the Milwaukee region’s corporate sustainability leaders into a community of practice. The group is a member-based organization of sustainability business professionals from non-competing firms in southeastern Wisconsin.  These businesses are, in many cases, customers of the myriad small and medium-size manufacturers who may become part of the sustainable supply chain that is taking root in many different business sectors.

Sustainability requirements are being driven down through the supply chain. Because a sustainability focus is fairly new, many companies approach sustainability practices differently. This roundtable will provide a forum for an exchange of ideas and best practices that benefit all members.

Roundtables for large and small businesses are expected to meet on a quarterly basis for a portion of a day in order to engage in discussions with peers and sustainability experts. The purpose is to create a community of practice where sustainability leaders in the region can focus on issues and topics that matter to them; share ideas across industries; benchmark with each other; find opportunities for collaboration; grow their company initiatives and bottom lines; and serve the greater Milwaukee business community.

The initial planning breakfast meeting will be held on January 9, 2014 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. to consider whether to form a sustainability roundtable for small and mid-size manufacturers.

Both roundtables will be structured as business-driven, business-to-business dialogues that draw in experts, provide leadership coaching, facilitate the exchange of resources and provide benchmarking support.
