Training Within Industry makes Lean thinking the daily focus of every employee. Companies that embark on a Lean journey can achieve remarkable initial success. The challenge is maintaining that success through time. Training within Industry (TWI) gives stamina to your Lean efforts by providing step-by-step training to supervisors, teaching them exactly how to improve productivity, quality and morale.

TWI 5 NeedsTWI is a proven Lean-based program that trains employees to succeed by enabling them to apply Lean Principles into their daily routine. It is particularly effective in leveraging the role of the supervisor or leader in conducting Kaizen events (continuous incremental improvement of an activity to eliminate waste) on an on-going basis. TWI consists of four standardized programs:

  • Job Methods (JM): Teaches supervisors how to produce a greater quantity of high quality products in less time by making the best use of people, machines, and materials available.
  • Job Instructions (JI): Teaches supervisors how to quickly train employees to do the job correctly, safely, and conscientiously.
  • Job Relations (JR): Teaches supervisors how to build positive employee relations, increase cooperation and motivation, and quickly resolve conflicts.
  • Job Safety (JS): Teaches supervisors to help employees implement preventive measures that, through practice, can help reduce incidents and improve overall work quality.
